What Size Barrel Sauna Do You Need?
2 m or 3 m barrel sauna? How many people really fit, how much garden space you need, why bigger is not always better, and when a changing room is worth it.
Read →The most common problem on delivery day is not the sauna but the route to where it will stand. Checking takes ten minutes with a tape measure; not checking can cost you a postponed delivery.
A 2 m barrel sauna: noticeably lighter, but still several hundred kilograms once built.
A 3 m barrel sauna: close to a tonne once built.
Our kit arrives on a pallet of roughly 240 × 120 × 120 cm and about 800 kg. Individual pieces are much lighter during assembly, but the heaviest staves and end walls still need two or three people.
By a haulier with a tail-lift lorry, to the kerb or driveway. Delivery is included in the kit price.
Two people unload and carry the elements to the spot. Because the kit comes as pieces, an access path wide enough for a person carrying a stave is all you need.
This is a fundamental point for planning: if the lorry cannot get close, tell us when you order and we will work out how the pallet can be handled.
The width of the gate and garden door: at least one metre.
Whether there are steps, narrow passages between buildings, sharp corners or low branches on the way.
Whether the ground can take the traffic. Freshly laid paving or a lawn after rain are a real problem, because wheel ruts stay for years.
Whether the delivery vehicle can park at a reasonable distance.
Add one metre on the door side and 40–50 cm on the other sides to the sauna’s length. A 3 m barrel sauna (about 3.4 × 2.2 m) needs a rectangle of about 4.9 × 3.2 m.
For height, add the chimney if the stove is wood-fired, and check that no branches or cables hang over the spot.
The diameter of our barrel sauna is 2.2 m regardless of length. A longer model is therefore not wider; it just needs more space in one direction.
A timber deck will only carry the sauna if the substructure is tight and strong enough and the sauna’s supports sit on the joists, not between them.
With an older deck it is worth looking underneath before delivery. A 3 m barrel sauna spreads close to a tonne over a few points, a point load rather than an even one.
Say so when you ask for a quote, not on delivery day. There is often a solution: help with moving the pallet, carrying the elements in stages, or a smaller lorry.
A photo of the access sent by WhatsApp or email saves both sides a wasted day.
